2023.06.08 14:28 Rikheart Question about setting my z-offset

Hello everyone, hope all is well. I got my cr-10 v3 a few days ago and this has been a hit or miss for me. Some prints fine others fail. And it's not that they fail completely but it's so hard to get a first layer. I always thought that once I level the bed it should run well for a few prints. But it hasn't been the case here since I'm getting elephant foot, too close, too far and won't stick of I move it in the slightest and so people have been telling me to set my offset. Ok fine, but I can't find directions on how to do that without a bt touch. Can someone explain to me how to do so?
From my understanding I have to auto home, level the bed corners with the paper and then press set home offset. Is that all?
For reference, I'm using cura at .2 mm 210 noz 60 bed Speed 40mm Retract distance 5mm Z hop on
If anyone can shed some light to this noob id greatly appreciate it. Have a nice day!

2023.06.08 14:25 tonearm Free Battle Path record

Hello everyone. Checked with the team at heavyvinyl and they have allowed me to post a free album offer for the sub.
This is for US buyers only.
"Buy any record from our web page, get a FREE Battle Path - Ambedo LP"
Battle Path - Ambedo was released through Inherent Records a few years back and we have a small number of dead stock hanging around on the shelves. Approx 10 of each color. There will be no repress. Thought this would be a good opportunity to hook up some like minded folks while introducing them to our web store.
Here is a direct link to the album with a bandcamp link in the description to preview the audio. I would file this under doom/experimental but the band does dabble in black metal elements as well.
How to get it: Add the Battle Path LP plus ANY additional album to your cart. Go to checkout. The next step will offer an option to add a discount code. Add the code BATTLE and it will discount one copy of Battle Path to FREE.
We usually pack our orders on Thursdays and Mondays. If your order is submitted soon enough, it may be packed this evening for Friday launch.
Thanks again to the team at heavyvinyl for allowing this.

2023.06.08 14:23 Pinkroboticunicorn Dream Fanfiction

So. Just to preface, this tag, or title, or whatever is going to be some damn weird, like really weird, extremely weird fanfiction involving my characters, so like original characters, and also characters from public media, completely based on my dreams, cool? Cool, cool, cool, I just uh... ya know, wanted to do this for fun, so let's go, alright?
Here we have a strange dream I had involving My Little Pony, and my own original Characters, the Dynamite Punch Girls, roll the fanfic...
Chapter One: In a Cage.
Leo blinked slowly, she felt odd to be honest, her head felt fuzzy, and kinda spinned slightly, she slowly reached down and touched it, she felt it in her hands, it was a broken device, a belt actually, it looked rather strange, and somewhat familiar, Leo had a few blanks of her memory, but she remembered what it was called, the device! It was called the Dream Dimension Belt, it must've been the thing that brought her there, but where? And where were the rest of Leo's friends!?
???: "You okay there hun?"
Leo jolted rather dramatically to her feet as she heard a strange voice, as soon as she came to her feet she saw them... 2 very colorful creatures, strange looking ponies, and they could talk...!!!
Apple Jack: "Spry one ain't ya, but we ain't here to hurt ya, promise, my name's Apple Jack, and this here is Twilight Sparkle, and her little dragon assistant Spike."
Spike: "Honored to meet ya!"
Twilight: "You're a human, right? Honestly I've never seen one in Equestria before, where are you from?"
Leo: "......"
Leo: "S-Sparksville...? Are you talking?"
Spike: "Never seen a talking pony before? Eh, you'll get used to it."
Leo: "I don't think I will, thank you very much."
Leo paused and checked their surroundings, it was a sort of prison cell, like a huge cage of some sort, and it looked to be underground somewhere, deep underground.
Leo: "Where... where am I?"
Apple Jack: "Well. Currently we're in the Diamond Dog's lair, we kinda got ourselves captured, and separated due to a bit of a slip up."
Spike: "The Diamond Dogs sorta dragged you into here with us, you were unconscious actually, like way out of it, you kept mumbling about it being broken."
Leo: "Huh. I have no idea what on Earth a Diamond Dog is..."
Twilight: "They're dog-like creatures that love diamonds, and live underground searching for them."
Leo: "Ooooooh! Okay yeah, now I know."
Apple Jack: "They brought you here with 2 other humans, kinda like you, just as pale as you. And took them deeper into the tunnels."
Leo: "MY FRIENDS!!!"
A couple of Diamond Dogs approached the cell, they had great malice and anger in their eyes as they slammed their fists down on the prison bars to try and intimidate them.
These Dogs were known as Rumble and Rough, the Prison Dog Guards, they looked like overgrown Chihuahuas, they looked mean with spiked collars, and sharp teeth, their growl was much deeper and far more intimidating than your average Chihuahua.
Rumble: "You BETTER shut up in there! Especially you, human! You're already on thin ice after falling from the sky, and on top of our fearless leader!"
Rough: "Yeah! Thin ice! You better watch it! You... you... hm... you freak!"
Leo: "That's the best insult you can come up with?"
Rough: "Uh. Yes..."
Leo: "Come back with new material, then we'll talk."
Rough: "Oh, oh okay, well see you then I guess."
Rumble: "Rough!"
Rough: "Yes, Rumble?"
Rumble: "That ain't how you-- Oh for Pete sakes! Listen here you, whatever your name is! Don't sass talk us! We're the ones in charge, and you ain't, so. Yeah!"
Leo: "You think that just cause you locked me up, you can boss me around?"
Rumble: "Yes."
Leo glared as she squeezed the bars tightly in a tight rounded fist, bending the metal like it was mere paper, Leo then proceeded to rip the door completely off its hinges, ripping the metal as they did so, and then proceeded to throw the thing at Rough and Rumble who proceeded to run away whimpering and whining as they went.
Leo: "@#$&$ cowards."
Leo paused for a moment, their eyebrows raised slightly, Leo touched her lip confusedly.
Leo: "Did my swear just get censored?"
Spike: "What's a "swear"?"
Leo: "Um."
Apple Jack: "Wow! I can't believe it! You ripped that door straight outta the wall! Amazing!"
Twilight: "Not gonna lie, that is pretty amazing, where'd you get all that strength from? You've gotta be super strong!"
Leo: "Uh. Huh. Well technically I was born with it."
Apple Jack: "And can you use that super strength of yours to bust out our friends? And maybe yours too?"
Apple Jack, Twilight, and Spike smiled gently, giving sweet saccharin grins, with big sparkling puppy dog eyes.
Leo: "Uh, what? Who said I wouldn't? I don't leave people hanging."
Twilight: "Yes! Uh, in the meantime, you could also tell us a bit more about yourself, where you're from, and all that, ya know?"
Leo: "Oh. Sure. I mean I guess, if might help me get back home."
Twilight: "Of course, I've never seen a human like you before anyway."
Leo: "Oh, uh thanks, I'm kinda a superhuman, it's like a human, but that has supernatural powers, like super strength, flight, speed, laser eyes, ect., ya gotta classify this kinda stuff a lot so people don't get mixed up, and stuff."
Twilight: "Fascinating."
Spike: "So like, you're from a different dimension, aren't you?"
Leo: "Yeah actually, I think this may have brought me here."
Leo held up the damaged Dream Dimension Belt that was currently still around her waist, it was scuffed up and damaged pretty badly, but thankfully it doesn't look beyond repair.
Twilight: "Can I see that?"
Leo: "Uh, I guess?"
Leo took off the Belt and Twilight brought it over to herself to look at, she used her horn to study it under and over.
Twilight: "Wow! This is pretty advanced, who made it?"
Leo: "I... I can't remember..."
Apple Jack: "It's okay hun, take your time."
Leo smiled at Apple Jack who smiled back, but suddenly seemingly out of nowhere Leo completely stopped the group in its tracks! And pointed to something in the distance, it was them!

2023.06.08 14:22 egglashy How do I determine what to do in life?

How do I determine what to do in life?
I am currently a student and I have an ultimate goal of running a successful business in the future. However, that is something still far away, and before that, I want to achieve a little success in something that can be small... like utilise a talent to produce some work that I can consistently uphold. But the issue with this is that, I lack commitment and I am always interested in a lot of things. When I do a lot of a particular action, I imagine becoming successful in doing it large scale. But the next day when I do something different, my mind changes and jumps to that. The questions I have is, is this necessarily bad? Or is there any benefit to this type of mindset that I have? How can I determine and utilise my interests and form a talent that can bring me to success? I always hear of talented people aceing in one particular aspect like because they are smart from young, have been excellent at piano, etc. But I don't know if I am or I am not simply good at anything specific and have a lack of commitment.
For example,
These are a FEW examples of the MANY things I jump to a fro, it seems impossible to narrow down. What should I do to narrow down and find success? I truly want to achieve results in a particular aspect, but I honestly don't have much enough of a talent for any of these topics.
Basically I don't find myself talented in anything or interested in one thing enough to keep me going into it, and I am already 20 with no clue what to do next.

2023.06.08 14:21 iwantyour99dreams Baby moon to Niagara Falls

We booked a hotel at Niagara Falls for this weekend at a very nice place for $400 a night and arranged for pet sitters, planned out the long drive... Then news hit about the fires and I'm concerned we can't go. The hotel is nonrefundable because I didn't anticipate something like this happening and we just booked the trip last weekend. Anyone in the area who can give advice on what to do? Is it bad enough to stay home and forfeit the hotel stay? I'm 32+5 and this was going to be the last time we're traveling far from home and the hospital. Thanks!

2023.06.08 14:21 UntrustedProcess Today, I'm the lightest I've been in 6 years, 63 pounds down from my max!

The number one habit has been weighing myself every morning as soon as I wake up. Seeing the direct results of all my recent decisions has helped me stay on task. I don't get hung up by small fluctuations but I can easily see the trend as I track my weight on a google calendar.
My meals thus far has consisted of eating a tiny breakfast of a single slice of cheese toast. Then I eat an early lunch of a plain salad plus some sort of meat on a small plate. Then I drink a ton of water to keep me feeling full until it's time for dinner where I again it as small of a plate as I can stand. I'm not counting calories or anything, but I am trying to make as much of my meals except breakfast mainly consist of vegetables. I'm not using any sauces on anything. And I never have dessert. I get this won't work for most people, but it's working for me to lose around 2 pounds a week.
I work from home, so I also try to do random body weight exercises throughout the day, like standing up and doing jumping jacks during a meeting or whatever if my camera is off and I can still listen to what is being said. I also don't do it vigorously enough to be winded if when it is time for me to speak.
If I stay on course, even if progress slows down, I should hit my target weight this fall. The key should be just to continue tracking my weight, keeping portions reasonable and mostly vegetables, and continue and possibly ramp up efforts on exercising as I gain more energy.

2023.06.08 14:20 This_Cardiologist242 If you’re spending time finding B2B contacts… this is new and dope 😂

Hello all!
Ive recently found a two-cell python script that will completely changed the way I go about finding B2B emails.
I’ve been word of mouthing the hell out of it. The Facebook page’s owner, Will Carrington, is a salesman that graduated from UVA last year. He’s trying to get this process out into the sales world, and is doing it from a Facebook page (inconsistent.contacts).
Anyways - here’s the process. It’s awesome, and he’ll send you a refund on your $25 if it ends up being more of a hassle than it’s worth.
No questions asked, but if your contacting merchandising buyers, as I do, it’ll def be worthwhile😅.
Cell 1 Inputs: company name, employee positions, @___.com
1) python uses LinkedIn to organize employee names into potential email combos ([email protected], [email protected], etc).
2) YOU use google spreadsheets to copy/past/download emails possibilities.
Cell 2 outputs: verified emails.
It won’t verify every email, as the verification works through your Gmail account.
The broader your network is, the more emails will come back as verified.
The awesome part - companies usually use the same name combination for all employees.
If the code returns 3 verified emails in the same format, you can rest assured that your desired contact’s email will be in the same format.
I’m done! But highly suggest checking it out.
Says he’s had 7 sells so far - which kind of blows my mind as I’m using it all day😂.

2023.06.08 14:16 junkmail22 [Theorymon] Status Reworks

My uncle who works at Sony Online Entertainment leaked me these totally real patch notes for pokemon lol!!! so far i'm only posting the part about status changes bcuz i want to keep the totally real leak coming slowly lmao. anyway here u smogons go take a look:
These changes are aimed at balancing not specific Pokemon but instead taking a close look at several core systems that have gone mostly unchanged in recent generations. In particular, we’re taking a closer look at mechanics that are considered “ban worthy” or uncompetitive. We start by re-evaluating status conditions.
  • Sleep now causes a Pokemon to miss their next two moves before waking up.
  • A Pokemon that is put to sleep becomes “well-rested” and cannot be put to sleep by enemy moves for the rest of the battle, even after switching out.
Sleep has long been considered one of the most problematic mechanics in the game since generation 1. Being able to take an opponent Pokemon out of the game for several turns in a row allows for free setup or an easy KO, or forcing a switch. Even then, once switched out, the sleeping Pokemon becomes a liability since it cannot easily switch back in. Several formats and side games have instituted a so-called “sleep clause” to mitigate the power of sleep. We’re hoping that this change makes sleep consistent and fair enough to mitigate the need for such rules, by allowing a single turn of setup, exactly once. We’re still keeping an eye on sleep - the ability to force your opponent to miss their turn, thereby getting free turns for yourself, is inherently very strong.
  • Freeze now lasts indefinitely.
  • Freeze now halves special attack.
  • Frozen Pokemon no longer miss their turns - instead, all healing they receive is halved.
  • A new Ice-type move: Hypothermia. Non-damaging move. 100% accuracy to freeze the target. 10 pp. Some users: Frosmoth, Abomasnow, Cryogonal, Rotom-Frost.
  • Some Ice-type attacking moves have had their chance to freeze slightly increased.
Similarly to sleep, freeze is incredibly powerful due to the cost of losing a turn. Even more frustratingly, since there is no reliable way to inflict freeze, losing a game to a 10% freeze chance becomes even more un-fun. We’ve retooled freeze to no longer cause you to miss turns: instead, it has defensive utility by halving special attack, as well as offensive utility by giving a way to more reliably wear down defensive Pokemon which rely on healing. We anticipate that the main use of freeze will be on bulky offense or all-out offense teams to deal with stall Pokemon. We’re additionally hoping that this increases the value of defensive and utility-focused ice-types, which previously had little niche. (Maybe this way we won’t have to give ice any new resistances.)
  • No longer does damage each turn.
  • Instead, a burnt Pokemon which selected a damage-dealing move loses ⅛th of its health at the end of each turn.
While we like the way that burn gives counterplay to physical attackers, the damage portion of the ability was very weak. We shifted it to something which depends on your opponent's play more. Now, burn is even more a counter to your opponent's offensive momentum. In particular, we like disrupting your opponent's attacks as something in Fire's "color pie".
  • A paralyzed Pokemon will never fail to move twice in a row.
  • Paralysis move failure chance 25 -> 30%
This is a consistency/quality of life change - in the long run on average, Pokemon will fail to move slightly less often than before, slightly more often in the very short run, but the average number of moves will be more consistent. It will also give both players some heads up that the next move is guaranteed to succeed, which strong players might be able to play around.
  • New status condition, associated with Ghost and Steel types.
  • Lasts indefinitely.
  • Ghost types are immune.
  • A shackled Pokemon cannot select the same move it used last turn.
  • If it has just switched in, it may select any move.
  • If a Pokemon attempts to use a move it used last turn immediately after being shackled, it will fail.
  • If a Pokemon cannot select any move (due to, for instance, PP loss or choice lock), it will struggle.
  • A new Steel type move: Chain Whip. 70 base power Physical Attack. 100% accuracy. 30% chance to Shackle the opponent. 15pp. Some users: Klefki, Dugtrio-Alola, Copperajah, Magnezone.
  • A new Ghost type move: Lock Up. Non-damaging move. 100% accuracy to Shackle the opponent. 10pp. Some users: Gengar, Mimikyu, Sableye, Hoopa, Brambleghast.
Knowledgeable readers may notice that this effect is very similar to the existing move Torment. When looking for choice-affecting effects to upgrade to regular status abilities, we decided on Torment, due to it being less devastating to many game plans than Taunt or Encore, as it still provides three choices for the affected Pokemon, as those abilities can be countered by switching out. We decided to move this ability out of Dark type - which already has a number of choice-affecting moves - into Ghost and Steel types to spread the utility love.
We anticipate that Shackle will mostly be used by defensive and balanced teams against aggressive ones, locking buff-focused teams out of either setting up for a sweep or repeatedly using their strongest attack, and more all-out or bulky teams from reliably finding 2HKOs.

2023.06.08 14:16 Axell-Starr Tell me why you like Mika

So Mika was the character that got me interested in the game at all when I first seeing screenshots of the game prior to EngStars being a thing.
The tldr is the UtaPri eng server went down which finally pushed me to try the game and instantly set him to my home.
Met him in the main story and was saddened. VERY much so because I was expecting way more from my first impression of him and many characters already had much stronger intros to me. I was...well... expecting far more from my first meeting of him in the main story than it seems I should have.
Anyway, due to lack of time and mental issues, piling on Mika stories onto the list of ones I plan on already reading is just not an option. (Struggling to finish the short Temptest story before it's free period ends for perspective) Tell me why you like Mika (and Shu for bonus points. I love Shu), I want to learn about him and be as detailed as you want. I'm more than happy to read long posts if you want to give me an entire thesis lol. If you just wanna gush and ramble near incoherently about him that's cool too! 🥰 I just wanna hear about him and he's an anigma I am curious about.

2023.06.08 14:11 beginners-blog How to make out with a girl in 40 seconds or less – for real

If you've ever seen a guy in a bar walk up to a girl he didn't know and make out with her almost immediately, it can be a completely mind-blowing experience. It may seem like it's magical or out of reach - a special ability or superpower that someone is born with.
But it's not. And it can be broken down into a few simple steps you can follow in order to make the same thing happen to you. In this article, I'm going to break down those steps.
The first step is to realize that about 90% of the difference between someone who's really good with women and someone who's not so good or mediocre with women, is the ability to spot a woman who's ready to make out.
I know it sounds kind of crazy at first, but it's true. If you walk into a bar and go up to any woman without knowing what signs to look for, your odds of success go WAY down.
You must know how to spot that woman who's already in this "make-out ready" state, so you can walk up and be "that guy."
Don't buy into the myth that women don't want this to happen.
Women are as sexual (if not more sexual) than guys are. Most of the time, this "turbo" make-out session never happens, because so many guys are afraid to go for it. And when this doesn't happen, the girls end up going home alone or worse.. staying kind of mean to a lot of guys in the babeing resentful and angry because no one's approaching them.
By putting this technique into practice, You want to discover how to see the women who you're able to make out within 40 seconds or less in the first place.
There are a few excellent indicators that will (especially in a bar atmosphere) tell you if a woman is game, or ready for an instant make-out session.

What to look for

The first indicator is a woman looking down often. When a woman looks down often, she is accessing her emotions.
Let me explain... When we look in different directions, we access different parts of our brain. These are called "Eye Accessing Cues." When a woman is in a bar setting and looking down, she's accessing her emotional brain.
If she makes eye contact with you, looks down then back up again, she's saying: "I have an emotional response to you looking at me and I'm looking down." And if she tilts her head down as well (and doesn't just use her eyes to look down), she's physically dropping herself a little bit lower and showing submission.
This gives you the ability to walk up and be the dominant man.
Now, if she looks at you, smiles, and doesn't look away, this could be a lot more difficult situation. Socially, she's meeting you head-on, and not showing immediate submission.
Women who you're going to be able to walk up to and make out within 40 seconds or less should automatically take the submissive role of a woman. That's one quality that shows you'll be able to quickly make out with her.
Another quality is that she's actively looking around to make eye contact. This is crucial. A woman who is engaged with someone specifically and she's not looking away is not going to be as easy to seduce in 40 seconds or less. It's going to take much longer.
Again, you're going to have to play a totally different kind of game when you walk up. You can't just walk up and make out with her.
So instead, if you see a woman who is in a conversation but she's constantly looking around and trying to make eye contact with a lot of people, this is probably a very, very likely opportunity for you and that's a woman you can walk up to and immediately become sexual with.
Other traits are revealed in the way they're moving and how they're dressed. Let's say she's standing with her feet about shoulder-width apart. It's less likely that a woman standing like this is going to be available for you to walk up and dominate. That's because she's standing in a dominant position, with stronger body language and she'll probably be a lot more resistant.
Instead, you want to find a woman who takes up less space. She has her legs closer together and seems to be outside of a group, looking around a little bit.
Another thing is the way she's dressed. If she's dressed in a way that's super flashy and attracting lots of attention, she probably isn't the kind of girl you can walk up to and make out within 40 seconds.
This kind of woman is looking for attention - not for someone to dominate them. What you want is someone who's in between "I don't care" and "Stare at my tits, bitch!" Somewhere between wearing sweatpants with an elastic waistband to the bar and done up really, really beautiful and sexy with a really low-cut shirt. You want to find someone who's in between those two extremes.
A lot of women who are on vacation fall into this realm. They don't want to over-dress or underdress, and don't know how the bar atmosphere is going to be. They'll usually come in open-minded, and start looking around trying to make connections. This is an excellent situation for you (and her, of course).
That's what to look for and how you spot her in the first place. If you see some of those, you want to watch her for a second. If you think that she is the kind of person you can walk up to and do this, then proceed.
If not, I'd actually suggest you proceed anyway, just to see what happens.
Next, right after you get that done and you've seen your girl (there are probably three or four of these girls in a bar at any given moment) you're going to walk up and start the scary part.

What To Do

This is where the most powerful kind of frame control comes in. It's very, very important that you understand how to control someone else's frame if you want to come across like you're a pro at this.
By "frame," I basically mean their "reality." You're controlling what they experience. You have to be able to stay in control of that experience in order to really bring her to the level where she feels comfortable making out with you immediately.
I'm going to give you a very quick, punchy, fast way of doing this. I'll explain as quickly as possible; that way you can go straight out and try it...
Here's what I would say, word for word... Walk up to a girl, when you get up to her and right when she makes eye contact with you, I want you to SLOWLY put your finger up by your lips and say this, "Shhh…"
Then slow your speech pattern down and deepen your vocal tonality. And immediately say, "Wait just one moment."
You can also say, "Stop for one minute." I suggest using a bit of NLP here. Whenever someone hears "stop," "wait," or "don't," they immediately register whatever comes after that.
So if I say, "Don't think of a black cat," what do you do? Immediately, you think of a black cat and whatever version of one you have in your head.
So if I said, "Don't try to make out with me," or "Don't make out with me right now," girls are going to be consciously hearing, "Don't make out with me," but their subconscious minds will be hearing, "Make out with me right now!"
You're attempting to sort of use real-life Inception to get making out with you to be HER idea. She should be thinking, "I should make out with this guy."
Now, during frame control you'll be using a lot of these subconscious triggers in order to get this to go as fast as possible. Please only use this for good. There are lots of evil ways to use this.
Don't try to seduce women who don't want to be seduced. Again, that's one of the reasons why it's important that you notice a woman who really does want to be seduced by a man.
So to recap so far: you walk up, you put your finger over your lips and you tell her to "Shhh" for a second and then you say a sentence that starts with "don't" or "wait" or "stop."
My typical response is "Don't worry... right now." That's all I say. And I slow that speech down – "Don't…worry…....... right now."
Then I go right into the next statement, which is, "You and I are going to have a secret. We're going to secretly kiss and no one will know."
And as I'm saying this, I'm leaning in... and you'll be doing the same when you do it. You're leaning in ever... so... slowly. At the same time, you're looking from her eyes down to her lips and back up to her eyes again.
This is called "Triangulating." Count to three looking at her eyes, then look down to her lips and count to two, look back up and count to three, look down and count to two... etc. Do that about three or four times as you're talking.
This can be a lot to remember, so you may want to practice it a little bit. I wouldn't expect you're going to get it perfect the first time.
So again, you say, "We're going to have a secret. We're going to kiss and no one is going to know." From here on out, you're really just filling up space with words as you're leaning in so you're still controlling the interaction.
So you're going to very, very slowly, take your right or left hand – whichever one is more accessible – and reach around her back. You won't pull her in toward you or anything yet, just touch her very lightly.
Signs That It's Working
Is she looking at your lips? If she's looking at your lips, you have a green light to go forward. If she's looking at your eyes, you may want to wait a second, or turn around and turn back again and try it again.
This resets the meter in her mind, so to speak. When you turn around and turn back again, most people consider this to be a fresh start in a conversation. It's a strange loophole in psychology.
For some reason, that's how we are as humans. When someone turns away and then turns back, we give them another chance to move forward. So if you're getting some resistance, turn around, turn back, smile, and continue. If she gives you resistance again, you probably should back off and find another woman.
If she's looking at your lips and seems to be very comfortable and excited, then proceed. You'll move in very closely and speak almost directly into her ear.
In a loud environment like a bar, you'll want to speak louder, but don't raise your voice. Make your voice very low so that you have to be very, very close to her ear for her to hear.
Then you're going to keep talking... What I usually say is, "No one is going to see this. It's just going to be our little secret. I promise I won't tell anybody only if you promise that you won't tell anybody either."
As I'm saying this into her ear, I make sure that she's feeling my breath on her neck. So I'm sort of breathing out a little bit more than normal as I'm speaking so she can feel that hot air on her neck.
This usually gets a very visceral, deep, sexual response from women when you do this.
As you're speaking really close to her ear, you'll, very slowly, press your cheek against hers as you're talking. Then you'll move your head over so that your mouth is closer to hers, and then... you'll start kissing her.
And if you do this right, you start out with just one soft peck... then go straight into making out. It may not seem like it in this description, but 40 seconds is a long time. This process can happen in a lot less than 40 seconds - I've done it in less time, and I've seen other guys do it, too.

Practice It

What I want you to do is practice this approach. Maybe go for a minute or two at first, and then get to where you can do this in about 40 (or even 30) seconds.
You won't use this tactic all the time. But when the opportunity is right, it's really good to have this in your seduction arsenal. You want to make sure that you have the right kind of tools for the job, so to speak.
Whenever you see a girl who's in that state and ready to be seduced, if you beat around the bush, engage in small talk, or generally waste time, she'll be turned off and you've lost a golden seduction opportunity.
Instead, when you spot this, you want to be able to see her, know that that's what she wants, go in, and give it to her immediately. This is the major difference between guys who are rock stars at walking up and seducing a woman... and guys who wish that they were great at quickly seducing a woman.
There are a lot of other success factors as well. There are techniques on how to speak with the right tonality... how to touch her that allows her to feel comfortable and doesn't turn off any of her weird alert switches... specific NLP triggers that you can use to connect and make sure she's totally in your zone.
What's taken me from a normal dude to a well-respected dating coach, is knowing a lot of short-cuts like this and knowing when to bring them out. And these shortcuts can also improve your game with women.
Remember these characteristics in women who want to be seduced, and remember – it is possible to make out with a woman in 40 seconds or less.

2023.06.08 14:09 Rainwhisperarts What do you think of Albert?

It’s been a bit since I’ve seen anyone talk here so I want to get the ball rolling again.

My opinions on Albert are complicated.

Boiled down to himself I like his personality it’s a refreshing kind of character, not ground breaking levels of good like William but he’s got an incredibly good screen presence. The anime especially knows how to use Albert well. His relationship with Moran has to be my favourite dynamic, I love Sherlock and William, as well as Louis and Fred but Moran and Albert just have something that’s fun to watch. Unlike other large animes/manga (*cough* Dazai and Chuuya *cough*) they do the teasing friend relationship well without abusive tendencies.

Most of the fandom seems to at the very least agree that the two of them are somewhat enjoyable to watch. My only real note on their dynamic is that whilst what we have is good, it’s very brief. I was quite surprised to see that they never got a light novel together, or any other content for that matter. I’m hoping with the success of the ship we’ll get to see more of that.

Okay so down to some of my problems with Albert.

The MI6 stuff, the anime removes his creation of MI6 which opens up the large plot hole of how on earth the Moriarty group is able to do half the stuff they’re able to without any outside help. I’ll keep this breif as it’s largely ignored by most people for the reason I just brought up but I just don’t understand the choice. I get that Louis taking over from Albert doesn’t make too much sense but it’s not exactly like the Anime has been all that caring for Louis up until that point anyway. It’s just a change that you really have to put a lot of thought into understanding and causes more issues than it fixes.

Onto non-anime stuff let’s talk his character arc and lack their of.

Again I like Albert but that’s because he’s a well written comic relief, there was zero implication what so ever that this man wasn’t having an amazing time with life. Until possibly the Milverton stuff and even then he’s serious and a little annoyed but he’s fine. There’s no “zombie-like” state. Then suddenly we get this massive speech from him to Moran where he looks and acts so differently. It’s just like “who are you?and where did you come from?”. I can completely understand his being sad over Willaim’s ”death” but the man was handing out home made Christmas sweaters one second and then handing himself into “prison” for an indefinite amount of time the next.

I get what they’re trying to do here, they’re trying to make a link between all three of the Moriarty brother’s where they each hide their own sadness from each other. But given that we were shown extensively that when Albert is trying to contain himself from issues that bother him he becomes apathetic to basically everything so much so he struggles to even make out faces. So it’s a bit hard to believe the new manga when it says he was struggling

Albert’s arc of starting the Moriarty group, the 3 of them sacrificing everything for their goals, and Albert struggling with guilt after William dies isn’t bad. But you can’t go back and say he always knew that William was suffering and that he was suffering the whole time when he wasn’t doing that. If that was gunna happen I really think Moriarty just need an extra chapter or 2 inbetween William announcing the changes and show us Albert starting to come to terms with everything, so he doesn’t just basically appear out of thin air with a completely unestablished character.

Which leads me into my main difficulties with Albert. Anyone else get the impression that they‘re trying to imply he didn’t tell anyone at all he was going to hand himself in and never spoke to anyone but Mycroft for 3 years? Because I defiantly did. We know Albert and Moran are friendly and even Louis comments on them being rather friendly with each other but that’s as far as we get with his relationships with anyone other than Mycroft. I’d struggle to even make much of a case for him and William being an active part of each other’s lives let alone Louis.

Albert has all the pieces to make himself an amazing character they are there, he’s just missing the actual interactions. The final problem isn’t a “disappointing“ arc because it’s bad it’s just confusing because most elements are just suddenly introduced with zero warning.

I did have more to say but my god is this a long post, so for now I’ll just say what do you think of Albert?

2023.06.08 14:07 dreftzg [Daily News] Orient Star Is A Skeleton At 1/5 Of The Price Of A Zenith, Bremont Releases Third Watch For The Williams F1 Team, Accutron Spaceview Gets First Major Update And The Vaer G5 Meridian Is A Flier GMT Watch Below The $1,000 Mark

It's Thursday and let's just get straight into it - make sure to check out the Vaer, interested in your thoughts.

What's new

Orient Star Will Sell You A Skeleton Watch At 1/5 Of The Price Of A Zenith
Just the other day I wrote about the Zenith Defy Skyline Skeleton, a wonderful skeletonized watch. It’s modern, it shows off a legendary movement, but it will also set you back a bit over EUR 11,000, which is a lot of money, no matter what budget you are shopping in. What if there was an a more affordable option out there? Maybe it didn’t have the super high end finishing of the Zenith or a legendary movement, but it looked just as cool and cost less than a fifth of the Zenith? Well, say hello to the Orient Star Avant-Garde Skeleton.
Orient started out in the 50s and has been part of the Seiko Epson Corporation since 2009. Orient Star, however, is the higher-end of the brand, which in 2016 shocked the market with a skeletonised model. Orient Star was known for their classical watches, so this was a huge departure. They updated it once in 2022 and are now introducing two new Avant-Garde Skeleton models as part of its Sports Collection with an automatic movement and a 60-hour power reserve.
The two models differ in the case material - you can have them in stainless steel or black plated steel - but they share the case specs. 42.3mm wide and 12.4mm thick, with a water resistance of 100 meters and bezels with hexagonal screws. The steel model has a combination of brushed surfaces with Sallaz mirror finishings (comparable to Grand Seiko’s Zaratsu polishing), adding accents and emphasising the solid metallic feel of the watch and bracelet.
Composed of two layers, the upper and lower plates of the dial are distinguished by different colours and finishings. The upper plate holds the luminous indices that project over the movement, and the lower plate is designed to protect the upper plate from shocks and deformation. Like the earlier model, the dial features a power reserve indicator at noon, a small seconds counter at 6 o’clock and a view of the balance wheel with its silicon escapement. The hour and minute hands are wider, sportier, and treated with luminous material.
Powering the Orient Star Avant-Garde Skeleton is the automatic, in-house calibre F8F64. Decorated with Geneva stripes, the partially openworked base plate reveals the bright blue silicon escapement peeking out just to the left of the small seconds and it’s rated at +15/-5 seconds per day, with a 60-hour power reserve. The stainless steel model comes with a steel bracelet; the black-coated steel watch on a black Cordura Ballistic nylon strap.
The retail price is EUR 2,000. Looking at photos of the watch, I’m not sure it lives up to that price. I would love to handle one live. However, this looks close enough to the Zenith, which is EUR 11,000+.
Saint Laurent Redesigns The Cult Girard-Perregaux Digital Quartz Watch, Gives It Black Ceramic And PVD Titanium
While Girard-Perregaux is most known for their higher end Swiss mechanical watches, at one time they were pioneers in the era of digital watch. Back in 1971, it made waves with the Caliber GP-350, a quartz movement that set the universal market standard for frequency. Following that was the Caliber 395 and that’s the movement that GP put in the Casquette, an unusual watch even at the time - it was a black geometric hunk on your wrist that displayed the time at the push of a button on a tiny screen on the front facing side of the watch.
The Casquete came in three materials, Makrolon (which was a black composite), stainless steel and gold plated. It was only made for two years - 1976 and 1978 - and during that time 8,200 pieces were made. The original is still a desired item among collectors, which GP recognized and did a recreation of the watch last year. While remaining fully retro, the reissue is powered by the vastly more efficient GP-03980 that displays hours, minutes, seconds, the day and the date, the month, the year, a chronograph, a second time zone, and a secret date.
Now, there’s a new version of the Casquete, one redesigned by Saint Laurent Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello for the Saint Laurent Rive Droite line. Vaccarello gives the watch a radical upgrade in materials, as the case is now made out of black ceramic and black PVD-treated grade 5 titanium. It’s sleek, it’s retro, chunky and dramatic, all the things Vaccarello is known for.
The watch is released under the Rive Droite imprint, a series of objects that are sold exclusively in two stores located in Paris and LA. This means that it will also be available exclusively at Saint Laurent Rive Droite stores in Paris and Los Angeles, as well as online via the official Saint Laurent Rive Droite store, in selected countries only. That, combined with the fact that this will be a limited edition of only 100 pieces, means you aren’t very likely to see one in the flesh. Which isn’t that much of a shame because I’m not sure it would be easy to justify the $6,700 price tag.
Bremont Releases Their Third Limited Watch For The Williams F1 Team
Formula 1 racing is an incredibly expensive sport. It was, at least, until 2021 when the organization implemented a budget cap of about $135 million. It’s still expensive, yes, but before the cap teams were known to spend up to half a billion dollars per year to push as hard as possible to win championships. The money for this endeavour comes from Formula 1, the organization, but this is just a small amount distributed to every team. The rest has to be raised from sponsors, and raising $135 million from sponsors is not easy.
Because of the high costs of the sport, the sponsorships are equally as high. It is estimated that the cheapest sponsorship is $1 million per year, an ammount that doesn’t get you a lot - surely doesn’t get you a sticker on the car, and it’s rumoured that Rolex is paying up to $50 million to be the official timing partner of the organization. So, I was pretty shocked three years ago to see that Bremont, the independent British watchmaker, sponsored Williams, the legendary British racing team, to a tune high enough to get a prominent sticker on the car. I had no idea Bremont was doing that good. Good on them.
To mark this sponsorship, Bremont has already created two limited edition watches and is just now releasing the third. Since both companies are very British, it’s no surprise that they are doing so just a month before the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. It’s the Bremont WR-45, a limited-edition chronograph that is inspired by this year’s Williams Racing F1 car, the FW-45.
The watch has Bremont’s signature three-piece “Trip-Tick” construction, it’s made from stainless steel with a black DLC finish and measures 43mm in diameter by 16mm-thick, with 22mm lugs and an overall lug-to-lug profile of 50mm. Despite the fact that the crown and pushers that operate the chronograph don’t screw down, it has a 100 meter water resistance. Unlike previous Bremont Williams Racing watches, the dial fitted to the new WR-45 is black to match its case, and it has a tri-compax configuration and a date window within the 6 o’clock sub dial. The white register at 9 o’clock features a light blue hand and serves as a running seconds indicator for the time, while the other two sub-dials are fitted with white-finished hands. Additionally, the hours counter features a thin three-color ring in light blue, dark blue, and white surrounding its perimeter, and this serves as a subtle nod to the official colors of the Williams Racing F1 team.
Inside the watch is the brand’s Caliber BE-53AV automatic chronograph movement based on the proven ETA/Valjoux 7753. It has a frequency of 28,800vph (4 Hz) while offering users a power reserve of approximately 56 hours, while the rotor has been skeletonized to look like the wheels of the Williams F1 car. The watch comes on a black two-piece alcantara strap.
This will be a limited edition of 244 pieces and every watch is accompanied with a genuine wheel nut taken from one of the Williams Racing cars. It’s priced at $6,595.
The Accutron Spaceview Gets First Major Update With Spaceview Evolution, But Keeps The Very Cool Electrostatic Movement
Accutron is one of the most familiar names in watchmaking. This Bulova model participated in the space race and was, reportedly, narrowly pushed out by the Omega Speedmaster to be the official NASA watch that will be worn on the moon, but the Bulova Accutron remained a beloved watch by many astronauts and was used in space. That’s why it was a bit puzzling when Bulova in 2020 decided to spin of the Accutron into its own brand. But the puzzle was put aside when Accutron introduced the gorgeous Spaceview 2020 with an open-worked dial and inspired by the original 1960s Spaceview. Now Accutron is introducing two new models called Evolution that do exactly that - evolve the Spaceview.
Just like the 2020 model, the Spaceview Evolution watches are housed in a 43.5mm polished stainless steel case that is 15.9mm thick. Where it differs from the previous model is in the movement. Not the movement they use, but rather the orientation of the movement - the entire thing is shifter 30 degrees, moving the crown to 2 o’clock, giving the watch a completely new look.
Accutron currently offers two versions of the Spaceview Evolution timepiece. One with a smoke-gray open dial, darkened metal outer ring, silver-toned hands, and a matte-black alligator strap. The other also includes a smoke-gray open dial paired with a silver-toned outer ring, metallic blue hands, and a shiny blue alligator strap. Both straps are genuine American alligator and are finished with double-press deployant clasps.
Inside the Spaceview Evolution watches is Accutron’s proprietary electrostatic energy movement. Essentially, the movement is home to twin turbines that rotate at rapid speeds with the motion of your wrist. Those turbines are located between two electrodes, which serve to capture the electrostatic energy created by the turbines and send them to an accumulator. The stored energy in the accumulator then powers two motors: an electrostatic motor (a world’s first) that drives the gliding seconds hand and a step motor that drives the hour and minute hands. The duo of motors are synchronized via integrated circuits and provide an accuracy rating of +/- 5 seconds a month.
The movement also has a power-saving mode, which kicks into gear after five minutes of inactivity with the second hand automatically halting at 12 o’clock. Although the seconds hand stays in place, the watch will continue to keep time as the hour and minute hands continue to move. To stop the power-saving mode and reactivate the seconds hand, you simply have to swing your arm up and down for about five seconds.
The Accutron Spaceview Evolution watches are priced at $3,950 and are available immediately for purchase.
The New Vaer G5 Meridian Is A Flier GMT Watch Well Below The $1,000 Mark
At the moment, my favorite GMT movement is a highly modified Miyota 9015 which the microbrand Arken calls the ARK-9015DT and uses in their Alterum. It’s a crazy movement that works unlike any other GMT movment. Rotating the hands clockwise moves the entire handset, including the GMT hand, as well as both AM/PM indicator discs. However, moving the handset in the opposite direction will lock the GMT hand and its corresponding AM/PM indicator (left of the dial) allowing you to set the time difference between your local and home times. This means you can set the minutes to any time and just rotate the hour hand.
Other than that movement and, obviously, in house ones, there seems to be a consensus that it’s hard to beat the recently introduced Miyota Cal. 9075 movement which is an affordable option for those who want a “flier” or “true” GMT, which allows for an independently adjustable local 12-hour hand. And this exactly has been a request from millions of collectors and watch enthusiasts. The movement also allows microbrands like the LA based Vaer to slap these movements into watches that look great and are really affordable.
Vaer’s most recent watch is the G5 Meridian GMT and it’s an intresting proposition. At first glance, the G5 looks identical to their G7. That could be because it comes in a 39mm stainless case without a crown guard and 200 meter water resistance or the fact that they come in pretty much the same four colors - two models with black dials and either red/blue or black/blue bezels, along with an all-black PVD variant, plus a third stainless steel option that is fitted with both a green dial and a green bezel. However, while Vaer’s G7 GMT is a Swiss-made timepiece powered by the Sellita SW330-2 and priced just above the thousand-dollar mark, the Vaer G5 Meridian GMT is an American-assembled version that runs on the Japanese Miyota 9075.
The watch comes on two different straps or bracelets that connect to the 20mm lugs with integrated quick-release springbars. Since the G5 GMT was designed to be used in the water, a black FKM rubber tropic strap is the standard included configuration, as it is the most water-friendly option available for the model. For the secondary strap/bracelet option, buyers have the option of either a simple NATO or a nylon single pass strap — or opting for one of the premium leather straps or stainless steel bracelets in Oyster and Jubillee designs.
The official price of the Vaer G5 Meridian GMT is $799 or $849 if you opt for one of the premium strap/bracelet options. That’s a fantastic price that gives you more functionality for a traveler.

The RZE Aspirare launches the brand into yet unexplored waters
Up until now, RZE have been quite conscious of their case sizes pleasing the majority of modern collectors who prefer conservative diameters. Their largest watch was the now-discontinued RZE Valour Chronograph at 42mm, with the sold-out Fortitude coming in second at 41mm. The new RZE Aspirare is bullish with its 44mm diameter, and untamed with a 53mm lug-to-lug that will absolutely demand some bravery to wear if you don’t have large wrists. Although the RZE philosophy has catered to the adventurous, the Aspirare is designed to be their most rugged project yet.

2023.06.08 14:06 Actually_Vyror 27 [M4F] What did the cat wearing an owl mask say?

Me-owl! :D I got plenty more jokes where that came from! :D
The names Aaron, it's nice to meet you. I am 27M from Kentucky USA. 2023 is officialy at the half way point (wasnt it just starting?), and my loneliness meter keeps filling up. While I enjoy my alone time, and overall am quite content with my life, I still feel the urge for companionship. To have that special someone I can share things with, or spend time with. Maybe you're reading a book or playing a game, when I suddenly burst through the door cause I found a tiktok of a cute puppy to show you. I want moments like that. I'm not the best at speaking about myself, so I have compiled a small list. (Yay for lists!) Information provided below: -Video Games: this is my primary pass time. If I'm not at work, I'm usually playing video games on PC. I enjoy a wide variety from shooters, strategy, RPG, and MMOs. I an a coward though, so not much horror. Currently been playing lots of WoW and the new Steet Fighter 6. Will probably be checking out the new Diablo at some point too. Also play Apex on occasion even though I'm terrible at it. Reading: I love to read. Both novels and also manga. I'm always finding new stuff to add to my book shelves. I also quite enjoy finding new webtoons on my phone to read. Fantasy and Sci-Fi are my favorites. I also enjoy writing, always got new ideas in my head. Sleep: If left unattended, I can sleep like a sloth. Anime: although I don't watch as much anymore (it's easier to read manga) I'm still a huge anime fan. Some of my favorites are Code Geass, Monster, Steins Gate, FMAB, and Emmience of Shadow. Work: I do work a full time job, night shift. Thanks to that I own my own home and live a simple life. I make enough to pay my bills and buy stupid (but important) things. I swear I needed the treadmill, and those games, and those books on my shelf. Look if it helps I can read some of them to you :D Other: Obviously I enjoy listening to music, really any genre thats not country. I also enjoy memes and tiktoks. I could share tons of stuff that I think would make you smile or laugh! I'm not sure what else to put, but if you've read this far, thank you! If you're at all interested, feel free to message or chat me. And if not, I hope you have a wonderful day :D!

2023.06.08 14:06 Blendi_369 The History of Middle Earth

Hello everyone. Hope you're doing fine. So I've pretty much finished the main books about Middle Earth and now I want to start reading HOME. I've started reading The Book of Lost Tales 1 but I'm not really enjoying it. From what I've read so far The Hobbit has been my least favourite but thus one is a new low that truth be told I was not expecting. I now the whole thing was just a first draft and it shows but my expectation were a bit higher. Now what I'm looking for are two volumes (kinda broke at rhe moment) that you think are a must read from HOME. From what I've gathered so far I'm probably gonna get Morgoth's Ring so I'm looking for another volume. I'm mosty interested in stuff that expands upon the "canon" and the lore. Thank you.

2023.06.08 14:06 Shadow_Halls Best ark mods for single player

Been playing on and off since early 2017 and these are imo the best mods if you want an ejoyable experience. Most mods that fixes a lot of the issues with the base game. I'm ranking the mods in the order best. But they are all just darn great.
  1. Structures plus. I mean what a legendary OG mod. The ability to pull items from far away without having to run back and fourth getting encumbered, doors with the options to auto open and close. Far less air conditioners needed to hatch eggs. And so much more. Must have.
  2. Kraken's better dinos. Fixes most of the dinos and with ini files options that fixes the level distribution of the official maps. It would never cross my mind to ever start a playthrough without Kraken's better dinos.
  3. Immersive taming. Standing around waiting like an idiot fora creature to eat food of it's inventory while unconcious is not immersive nor is it fun. Watching it lose all it's taming effectiveness because a Dilo sneak up on you and bite it's butt is not fun. Immersive taming fixes that and let's you tame creatures in an interactive way.
  4. Castles, Keeps and forts remastered. If you're like me and loves building this mod adds tons of new structures and options when building.
  5. Shiny dinos. Colorful creatures that will spawn on the map from time to time, with a higher chance to spawn at a higher level. If it spawns as a low level it will still drop valuable loot like kibble when killed.
  6. Dino storage V2. Just a big improvement on the cryopod. No cryo sickness. Just more quality of life stuff.
  7. Eco's RP decor. Cool and unique items to customize your base, make it look better.
  8. Marnimods hairstyles. Adds more hairstyles to the game.

2023.06.08 14:05 cheappanel The Internet based Gambling club and Online Openings Are What's in store

At the point when online club started growing up all around the web, there were most certainly downers in the web-based gambling club regions. People could hardly imagine how the extravagance and fun of a genuine gaming lobby could be brought to the web. As far as some might be concerned, truly making sense of a gambling machine in itself was excessively. Presently, they needed to sort out the gigantic extravagance of online club spaces from home.
It required some investment, however the web needed to account for the best in internet based gambling club openings and video spaces. The web did, so for some devotees of key gaming and karma, they had their brains made up: Online Openings may before long be the norm for betting.
Video Poker is one web based game that is developing more famous consistently. Poker itself has a rich history that is difficult to rival. At the point when you consider it, an internet based gambling club is the most secure spot to play the round of poker. Raja Slot88

Think about this: new internet based opening games and gambling club games are being planned increasingly more for another age. The new age of web based gaming and gambling machines is an age of PC clients. The innovation presently is equipped towards PC shrewd speculators. Plans of online gambling machines can go from exemplary focuses on a more refined and edgier look. While this might drive away customary gambling machine clients in conventional club and betting corridors, the utilization of new web-based gambling club spaces is developing and easy to use. Interesting to a bigger and fresher crowd is fundamental for web based betting and customary betting enterprises.
The opportunities for the looks and plans of Openings and Online Club are unending. Assuming you are new to online spaces, you should rest assured that you will find the style that you customarily might want to find in gambling club. The eventual fate of online spaces is completely open and taking special care of people like you is what's truly going on with the internet based gambling club industry.
With cooperation internet, playing on the web gambling club games, for example, online spaces can be an incredible movement for cash or for no particular reason. Whether you are a more youthful age openings player or a customary spaces player, finding a remarkable and invigorating internet based spaces experience is simple once you begin.

2023.06.08 14:04 KKshilling The Difference Between Self-Employment and "Normal" Jobs

The Difference Between Self-Employment and

Imagine a 10-story Manhattan residential apartment building, in which each floor is nicer and more opulent than the last.
The ground floor is home to the cheapest apartments: studios with iron bars over the windows, leaky faucets, and the occasional rat or three. Sure, it’s habitable, and the hot water (occasionally) works, but it’s far from desirable.
As you move up to the second and third floors, the rodents disappear, the iron bars are removed, the plumbing is secure, and your bedroom, which is separate from your living room and kitchen, now has enough room for a queen mattress and a full-sized desk. It might not be your dream home, but it gets the job done.
On floors 4-6, your checkerboard floor tiles are switched out for hardwood, an in-unit washer and dryer replaces your weekly commute to wash your clothes, and your kitchen and living room are finally separate entities. (In most of America, these things are “normal.” In New York, an in-unit washer and dryer is a status symbol.)
Floors 7-9 bring beautiful views of the city, access to a balcony or deck, a dining room that fits a table for eight, a small home office, a living room that can hold dozens of friends, and one of those showers where the water pours directly from holes in the ceiling, like a waterfall for folks who don’t live anywhere near nature.
And then we have floor 10, the penthouse. Your floor has its own elevator that other residents can’t access. Your living room, grand piano included, has an unobstructed view of the East River, and it’s plenty big enough to host a cocktail party for 100 of your closest friends. Your floors are made of marble, your bookshelves are full of novels that you’ll never read (but still look impressive), you have one of those televisions that retracts into the floor on command, and you don’t have to lift a finger in the kitchen, because your chef handles the cooking for you.
Can you tell I’ve been apartment hunting this week?
So where will you reside? Well, that’s up to fate. Now imagine that you have two choices:
Choice A: you have a 10% chance of living on floors 2 and 3, an 80% chance of floors 4-6, and a 10% chance of floors 7-9. You are guaranteed to avoid the dredges of the ground floor, but you’ll never reach the penthouse either.
Choice B: You have a 20% chance of living on the ground floor, a 20% chance of landing in the penthouse, a 55% chance of landing anywhere between floors 2 and 9, and a 5% chance of sleeping outside the building altogether. Maybe you become Jay Gatsby, maybe you ask Mr. Gatsby for money on the corner, or maybe you end up somewhere in the middle.
Which choice do you make?
In 2023 in the United States of America, you have two options for employment:
1) Working for someone else
2) Working for yourself
Critics of traditional employment exclaim, “You’ll never get rich unless you own equity in your work; you have to be your own boss. A salary is no way to reach the top 1% of wealth in the US.
Critics of self-employment cry, “It’s far too risky to strike out on your own. Sure, there are some success stories, but you will probably crash and fail.”
Both parties believe they are right, and both parties leverage countless data points to support their positions. But both parties are missing the point.
The key isn’t that one form of employment is objectively better than the other. The key is that the distribution of outcomes that accompany different employment types varies.
In the example above, the probabilities of living in different apartments weren’t simply an arbitrary test of your risk tolerance. They serve to highlight the range of outcomes you can expect from different career paths.
Allow me to explain with yet another analogy.
In finance, we use derivatives called options to place leveraged bets and/or hedge our portfolios against downside moves.
The two simplest options are “calls” and “puts.”
You can buy a call option to bet on a stock going up by a certain date. If the stock price increases enough before the option’s expiration date, you will make a lot of money. If the stock doesn’t increase enough by the expiration date, the option expires worthless. You can also get paid upfront to sell call options on stocks that you already own, but you will be obligated to sell those shares at the option’s strike price if the stock price increases past that point, capping your potential gains.
Buying a put option gives you the right to sell that stock at a certain price, no matter how far its price has fallen, allowing you to hedge against declines. Meanwhile, selling a put option obliges you to buy that stock if it falls below your option’s strike price, opening you up to risk if a stock performs poorly.
There is one particular options strategy known as a “collar,” where you sell call options on stocks that you own and use those proceeds to purchase matching put options. This strategy got its name because it “collars” your portfolio: you are protected from downside moves, but your upside is limited thanks to the calls you sold to pay for the insurance.
Mark Cuban famously used a collar to preserve his wealth after selling Broadcast.com to Yahoo for billions right before the Dot Com bubble crashed.
A traditional, salaried job is a collar: the cost of protecting against downside risk is limited upside.
Think of your entry-level salary at your first job in corporate America as the second floor of the building, and your total comp as a high-level VP or director as an apartment on the eighth floor.
Your worst possible outcome, a career that fails to advance, still pays well enough to cover the basics. Meanwhile, a home run career pays handsomely, but it won’t propel you to the upper echelons of wealth. Like Mark Cuban’s Yahoo shares, your career is collared. The potential upside and downside outcomes are range defined.
Working for yourself, on the other hand, is like purchasing call options. If you succeed, the upside will outperform the “normal” career by a magnitude, but if you’re wrong, no one is there to save you. The cost of admission for unlimited upside is the potential for absolute failure. Maybe you become a millionaire, maybe you go bust. Who knows.
Of course, neither path is an all-or-nothing pursuit. There’s nothing wrong with allocating a small portion of a well-diversified portfolio to some more speculative call options, and you certainly don’t have to quit a well-paying job to go all-in on last weekend’s late-night Eureka! moment. In fact, the prudent move for someone looking to start their own thing is to launch it while they’re still working, that way they don’t need the money immediately.
If a stock does well enough, it can still generate insane returns for you despite initially being a small part of your portfolio. If your side hustle takes off, it can still generate life-changing money for you as well, without you having to give up your day job along the way.
That being said, I love a good casino trip, so we’ll stick with the call options. It is just betting on yourself, after all.

2023.06.08 14:01 Over_Travel1149 How to consider my partners feelings after abortion.

Yesterday morning, I went through the process of my second MA. Alone, for the second time but he was very open about being with me (this time) if I needed him to be but I insisted he went to work.
The first time around, I immediately knew I didn’t want to go through with the pregnancy. I’m 24yrs and have just now started off my career, I knew I wanted to focus on that before bringing a baby into this world. Him, on the other hand, has always dreamed of being a father. I felt very guilty for not putting his feelings into consideration but I broke down the moment I found out the test was positive and that was enough for me to know that I’m not ready. He supported me anyway but from a distance. The day of the first MA, I kept him updated through the whole thing and by the end of the day, he told me he was going to his friends house to watch a football game. This really hurt my feelings considering what I had just gone through and I guess I’m in the wrong for expecting to be his priority to check on that day but I didn’t even receive a phone call. I fell asleep and woke up in the middle of the night and he was already sound asleep next to me. We talked about it, he apologized, we moved on.
Now fast forward to just this past month. We have been together for going on 6 years now and recently, we’ve hit a rough patch. I thought we had gotten past the stage of constant arguing but for the last month, we have argued and I’ve cried every day straight. Then, boom. Pregnant. Literally the worst timing possible. If this had happened two months ago, I would’ve actually kept the baby as scary as it would’ve been. But it’s gotten to the point where we have both almost left each other so I kept telling myself over and over that I don’t want to do this.
He was pretty depressed prior to me finding out but now, he immediately shut down. He reassured me that he supports whatever I decide because I had already shared with him that I was too scared to go through that MA pain again, but I was more afraid of us not working out and I would have to raise this baby on my own. He then responded with “even if we separate, you’re not raising my baby alone.” I don’t know why, but that response immediately told me it to go through with it.
I know this only happened yesterday but our conversations since then have already had me stressed out. He l checked in with me and called me to see how I was doing after everything but he STILL asked if it was okay for him to watch a basketball game with his friend. Of course I said yea because I know that’s how he decompresses the best especially after the day we had. Even though I said it was fine, I’m upset that I wasn’t at the top of his list to check in and see me. Is that selfish? For me to want him to be worried about me? I know he’s dealing with this in the best way he knows how to but if the roles were reversed, nothing would hold me back from running home to him.
I’m going crazy in my head trying to figure out if I’m being controlling or insensitive to his feelings about this. Our car broke down last night so we didn’t really have a way for him to come home and he didn’t want me doing too much by getting out of bed to pick him which I appreciated but he didn’t even bother asking anyone for a ride or getting an Uber.
He knows all I wanted and really needed is to be held. I live in a red state so it’s not like I can really talk about this with just anyone. I really just needed a hug and it felt like I was asking for the world by asking him to let me bring him home.
If you made it this far, thank you for just reading. I really just needed a place to vent and this seemed like the place to do so. So thank you.
