Incoming Rant… sorry.
Registering for classes is complete nonsense. I just spent the last hour trying to prepare a list of class numbers to register my 4yo for, only to have all my choices get booked nearly instantly at 8:01 (portal went live at 8). I’m in IT so I’m very quick on the keyboard and even I couldn’t get into anything. There’s gotta be a better way to do this. Registering for classes 1 at a time is maybe one way to make it more fair. Regardless I’m pretty disappointed.
Also with waitlisting there’s zero reason to not put yourself on every waitlist for a given class since you don’t have to put any money up front. I suspect most people do the same, which means that these waitlists are inflated.
If demand is this high then I’d rather have a lottery system in place for these classes. Something like you register immediately for the waitlist and then a lottery determines who gets in at the end of registration day. This would allow people to not have to rush the site at exactly 8am, making everyone’s lives better.

On July 16, 2022, the Beaverton Police Department was contacted by employees of VillaSport located at 13900 SW Meridian St. in Beaverton. VillaSport staff told responding officers a gym member, identified as 47-year-old Damien Karp of Beaverton, had just been caught engaging in an inappropriate interaction with a child in the outdoor hot tub.
Beaverton Police Department officers began their investigation into the report. During the initial investigation, officers learned Karp was a registered sex offender and was on probation for related crimes. Part of the stipulations of his probation was he was not allowed to have any contact with minor children. As a result, Karp was arrested for violating the terms of his probation and lodged in the Washington County Jail.
With the assistance of VillaSport staff and management, Beaverton detectives began an in-depth investigation into Karp’s behavior. Over the next few weeks, detectives determined Karp had inappropriately touched multiple under aged victims at the Beaverton VillaSport in June and July of 2022. Detectives determined Karp would use a waterproof camera to film his crimes against minors while they were swimming.
The investigation led to Karp being indicted by a Washington County Grand Jury on August 30, 2022, for 10 counts of Sex Abuse in the First Degree, and two counts of Invasion of Personal Privacy in the Second Degree. Karp, who has been in custody since July 16th on the initial probation violation arrest, is still in custody at the Washington County Jail at the time of this release.
Detectives learned at the time of Karp’s arrest that he was also a member at Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District (THPRD). Detectives believe he may have attended the swimming pool at THPRD’s main complex at 15707 SW Walker Rd. sometime during April of 2021.
Based on the nature of Karp’s crimes, he likely has more victims, according to Beaverton Detective Chad Opitz. Did some basic googling and whatever I found was quite expensive ($120 for 8 classes etc) which seemed expensive for 1 month. We moved from Beaverton, Oregon where THPRD had quite good class options as well as rates, so curious if I am searching the right way.

A dedicated multigenerational, multiethnic, and multilingual volunteer group – the Visioning Task Force (VTF), was recruited to work together and with district staff to lead outreach efforts. Their task: lead and help create public involvement strategies to meet communities where they are. Throughout the summer of 2019, they captured the unique stories, experiences, and creative ideas of district residents.
Our volunteers represented the community well, reflecting a diversity in age, ethnicity, race, gender, and languages spoken. Their ability to connect with and advise the district on outreach strategies was impressive. Even more impressive was their commitment and dedication to leading the engagement efforts themselves and the hours they spent volunteering at events throughout the community to gather input.
The resulting Vision Action Plan was written by those community volunteers.

We're looking to get involved in the community-- where do you like to volunteer? We enjoy working with kids and/or outside. So far I've found HomePlate, SMART Reading, and THPRD opportunities. Looking for ongoing/regular, can commit, but only evenings/weekends. Looks like there's a Beaverton volunteer fair sometime in 2020 but figured I'd ask here instead of waiting. Any experience with these or other organizations?

Using a different account since there's a lot of personal info on my main.
I live in an apartment in the hazy crossover area between Beaverton and Portland, and I am desperate for a spot to just lay out in the sun in my swimsuit. My apartment complex has a little grassy yard area that's usually just filled with chain smokers or teens or being used as a dog restroom, and my patio is enclosed and doesn't get hardly any sun. I've got a favorite river spot south of Tualatin, but an hour long drive each way is too much for a solo lay out.
There are a few parks around (Bethany Lake Park isn't too far a drive) but I don't feel like any of them are the kind of place where I can lay out in a swimsuit without getting dirty looks from soccer moms or trampled by kids and/or joggers. I could use a THPRD public pool during open swim hours, but I don't want to have to pay $5 any time I just want to use a lounge chair and get some vitamin D.
Do any of you know of somewhere that I wouldn't look like an exhibitionist laying out in the suburbs (Hillsboro/Beaverton)?

I'm from Phoenix and usually participate in the event in Tempe but family obligations will cause me to miss the run in AZ this year. Is anyone familiar with the Honor Run that is done in Portland? It looks like this year it is at the THPRD HMT Complex. Is it well attended. TIA for any information you can provide.
