Is Paying for Maintenance on Custom Software Normal? What Costs to Expect?
2023.06.08 12:36 BleetMarc Is Paying for Maintenance on Custom Software Normal? What Costs to Expect?
In short yes, it is quite common to pay for ongoing maintenance and support for software that was custom-developed for you.
In the world of custom software development, the initial development is just the beginning. Once the software is complete, it often needs to be maintained to remain functional, efficient, and secure. Maintenance can include updates, bug fixes, system optimization, adding new features, and more. It can also involve server maintenance and monitoring if the software is web-based.
The reason you usually have to pay for this is because it takes time, expertise, and resources from the development team. They often have to assign dedicated staff for ongoing support, which incurs costs. The exact cost of this maintenance can depend on the complexity of the software, the nature of your business, the level of support you require, and other factors.
However, it’s important to note that the details of such arrangements should be explicitly outlined in your contract or agreement with the software development team. In some cases, a certain period of maintenance might be included in the initial development cost, or it could be charged separately. It’s always a good idea to understand these details upfront when negotiating the terms of a software development project.
The cost for maintaining custom software can vary widely depending on many factors. Some of these factors include:
- The complexity of the software: More complex software often requires more work to maintain.
- The level of service required: If you need 24/7 support and quick response times, this will be more expensive than less intensive support.
- The location and rates of the developers: Developers in different countries or regions can charge different rates.
- The skill level and experience of the developers: More skilled and experienced developers typically charge higher rates.
- How much the software is used and how critical it is to operations: Software that is more heavily used or that is critical to your business might require more frequent updates and more robust support.
However, as a general ballpark, many companies might charge somewhere between 10–20% of the original development cost per year for maintenance.
So, for instance, if the original software took 3 months of full-time work to develop, and let’s say the developer’s rate was $100 per hour, that means the original cost would be around $48,000 (40 hours a week * 4 weeks a month * 3 months * $100 per hour). Therefore, the maintenance cost per year could range from $4,800 — $9,600 or $400 — $800 per month.
This is just a rough estimation and the actual costs can vary. Always ask your software developer for a specific quote and make sure you understand what is included in the maintenance contract.

2023.06.08 12:16 br1y Intro Headphones for Music + General Use - New Zealand
I've been really wanting to expand my horizons in terms of listening to music as well as a bit of general use - I have a rough budget of $150NZD, maybe $200+ if it's highly recommended, and it absolutely has to be able to be bought in NZ - or Australia if it ships. Shipping from other countries is just far too expensive to justify
I'm not sure how I fall in terms of balance, as my only decent pair of headphones I've had in the past are the Sony XM4s and I'm relatively content with those but I'm open to trying out other stuff - I listen to a decent mix of genres but nothing really too out there
And not included in that budget there but if a DAC is also recommended I'm willing to get one as well

2023.06.08 12:14 South-Sea-2269 My best friend is bipolar: Need some acvice (sorry in advance for wrong terminology)
Hey everyone, I’ve been reading up on all of the information that has been on these reddits and I have learned so much but I still wanted to ask some questions. My best friend is bipolar, he had his first episode 2 years ago (apologies if I’m saying it wrong). One of our closest friends had just passed and that seemingly triggered it. Has that been the cause for anybody else’s SO?
Growing up he was always a bit emotional but nothing that was alarming. Anyways, he had some rough times but in the last year he was really getting better and we were all seeing improvements until a month ago. Ever since then he has not been himself and has been acting out as well. We FaceTime every day (we don’t live in the same country) and I worry a lot because I feel like he is losing his intelligence by the day and it’s getting worse. He always repeats himself, he can’t listen for longer than 30 seconds and always has to talk. I know for sure he’s still in there and we don’t want to lose him completely.
He was off his meds for the last couple of months but now he just started taking them again 2 weeks ago. Yesterday on our call while he was taking his medicine I asked him what medicine they had prescribed him. I asked him this because we are from a third-world country where the knowledge on bipolar disorder is not as developed as the rest. Plus in our culture having a mental illness is not ‘understandable’ , it is very taboo parents usually like to keep it under wraps and not take any advice from anyone except the doctors but I don’t know if the doctors they are getting are qualified enough. He told me that he takes a pill called “lexotan”. He takes 4 at a time every night after dinner. When we hung up I looked it up and the first thing I saw was that you are supposed to take it an hour BEFORE dinner. It is also more of a medication for anxiety and while I know he has some kind of anxiety, that is not what he suffers from the most I am sure of that. It also makes him sleep immediately after he takes it. During the day when I’m on the phone with him he looks tired all the time, his eyes are always low, his mouth is so dry and he often times slurs his words. I know these might be the side effects but I am just very skeptical about all of this, especially because I fear his doctors might not be qualified enough. I also overheard a conversation with his therapist and she just kept on telling him to take his medication and everything will be fine.
Has anyone’s SO also been on “lexotan” if so, how has it worked out? My apologies if this is a bit all over the place but I just want to be informed as much as possible.
I’m going back home in a few weeks and will be seeing him again after a year. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thank you in advance!
Ps. “Lexotan” might be the name for it in another language. If you’ve never heard of it look it up on google and see if there’s another name for it.

2023.06.08 12:13 KingofSpain0 Joshua 2
Joshua 2:1-24
Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. “Go, look over the land,” he said, “especially Jericho.” So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.
2 The king of Jericho was told, “Look, some of the Israelites have come here tonight to spy out the land.” 3 So the king of Jericho sent this message to Rahab: “Bring out the men who came to you and entered your house, because they have come to spy out the whole land.”
4 But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. She said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they had come from. 5 At dusk, when it was time to close the city gate, they left. I don’t know which way they went. Go after them quickly. You may catch up with them.” 6 (But she had taken them up to the roof and hidden them under the stalks of flax she had laid out on the roof.) 7 So the men set out in pursuit of the spies on the road that leads to the fords of the Jordan, and as soon as the pursuers had gone out, the gate was shut.
8 Before the spies lay down for the night, she went up on the roof 9 and said to them, “I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. 10 We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. 11 When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.
12 “Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign 13 that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them—and that you will save us from death.”
14 “Our lives for your lives!” the men assured her. “If you don’t tell what we are doing, we will treat you kindly and faithfully when the Lord gives us the land.”
15 So she let them down by a rope through the window, for the house she lived in was part of the city wall. 16 She said to them, “Go to the hills so the pursuers will not find you. Hide yourselves there three days until they return, and then go on your way.”
17 Now the men had said to her, “This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us 18 unless, when we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother, your brothers and all your family into your house. 19 If any of them go outside your house into the street, their blood will be on their own heads; we will not be responsible. As for those who are in the house with you, their blood will be on our head if a hand is laid on them. 20 But if you tell what we are doing, we will be released from the oath you made us swear.”
21 “Agreed,” she replied. “Let it be as you say.”
So she sent them away, and they departed. And she tied the scarlet cord in the window.
22 When they left, they went into the hills and stayed there three days, until the pursuers had searched all along the road and returned without finding them. 23 Then the two men started back. They went down out of the hills, forded the river and came to Joshua son of Nun and told him everything that had happened to them. 24 They said to Joshua, “The Lord has surely given the whole land into our hands; all the people are melting in fear because of us.”

2023.06.08 12:10 vibranda How to help someone who thinks I am trying to rescue her?
Hi!
I wanted some advice on how to deal with someone who I've know well for the last year. We've distanced quite a bit, and the only problems we had were about her putting red lines as I tried to help her. Lemme write some context.
She's in her late 30s, got trapped in my country before the pandemy. She had some rough years away from her family, with no work permit, no good future in sight, thinning her savings for survival, bad eating habits, smoking weed on an almost daily basis, drinking occasionally and not so occasionally, no exercise, many tv shows, too much social media, bad sleep and shitty work. I told her that she would benefit from taking again control of those things.
I mean by this to stop drinking, smoking, to eat well, to get a day off in an isolated place of the countryside with no music or phone just to think and reconsider all that. Not that I had an easy life either, I had my shit and almost lost control for a month, but I was able to recover in two to three weeks after that. I mean, I know people who's either on the verge of suicide or with such recurrent thoughts, depressed. I experienced a very heavy downfall that almost costed me the bunch of friends that still were around because I am a very intense and heavy-load-alike guy. I once considered taking my own life, even with my preparation and the pain of seeing others almost do it. But this woman keeps telling me that we are different, that I need to live more, that she's not sad nor can anybody do anything to solve her problems.
I've tried (from the distance) to help and "persuade" her to start with those small things that will help her live better, even with such low expectations on having an old-age pension, a dept. and a work permit. She's in a denial, but blames me for trying to rescue her, that she's not someone in need of a rescue/help, that everyone is different and that she's just fine smoking weed for relaxation, sleeping bad, fat, unable to stop drinking when people around do and such. The worst part is that now she has a boyfriend and is kinda hiding al this behind the "at least he listens to me, supports and lets me on my own, I like him".
How to deal with such situation?
Thanks in advance.

NOTE: Not interested in your politics or opinions on. Passive agressive / patronizing comments or schizo accusations about my politcs will be ignored. Im looking for people interested in providing a balanced view of hungary and not doomer posting. All countries are flawed. It is my choice to decide where I want to live so I want to hear from actual human beings that live and work there as Expats, not basement dwellers of reddit. Thank you ! :)

2023.06.08 11:59 banana_bread_32 HK Disneyland vs Universal Studios SG?
Hi everyone! I’m planning to take my family (4 adults, 2 minors, plus my SO) on our first out of the country trip. I’m torn between these two theme parks. Park tickets are roughly the same but how about the transportation, food? Based on your experience, which country do think is more first-time-traveler and budget-friendly but can still offer a lot?
I’m open to your thoughts and recommendations! 😊

2023.06.08 11:52 Lazy-_-bastard My mother left me and now 14 and a half years later wants me to come back
So roughly 14.5 years before my mom left me and my father for another man. my father was 13 years older than her so i understand why she left. I was 1.5y old back then so i didn't understand anything. It helped me alot to cope with the problem. My father raised me and gave me all the love in the world and was always working trying to fill the hole my mother left. Just a few days ago the oldest son of my father's brother called us ( we left our house and didn't tell anyone about where we went or are going). My father and my 'brother' had a deep conversation about the family and found out that my grandfather died 7 months ago and my grandma had a heart attack. We went there two days after and had an decent reunion. But i found out that my birth mother is trying to find me since she is guilty of what she has done. Soon we will meet I'm sure of it. She's not in the country so it may be delayed. But the real thing is that i don't know what to do.
Should i forgive her or should i not or should i say i forgive you but doesn't want you to be a part of my life. I know this sounds extremely selfish and self-centered and even pitiful but I don't know. I know my father better than anyone around me. So i know each of these answers will have deep consequences. My father still loves her so i don't want to make him sad in anyway. Yet I don't want anything to do with her. What should i do?

2023.06.08 11:34 Academic_Ad7071 PERM & EB 3 Process Timeline
Hey everyone, Info about me: f-1 student, roughly 32 months left on OPT, from a country without backlog.
When I was in the hiring process my company told me that they were willing to sponsor eb3, but recently they created a visa department, and I talked to them last month they said it's impossible to complete the eb-3 process in 33 months. Is it really impossible or is the visa department gatekeeping for more $$? I've seen many people that got their green card around 2 years in this subreddit. However, I couldn't find the recent Perm/eb-3 timeline. Can you guys please inform me about realistic timeline so I can talk to my manager instead of the visa department?

2023.06.08 11:23 Jhonjournalist These Factors Have Led to the Oil Market’s Upswing
| While markets were pricing on a rise of 1.33 million barrels, petrol stockpiles in the US increased by roughly 2.8 million barrels and distillate inventories increased by 5.1 million barrels. Concerns about consumption in the world’s largest oil user have been raised by the unexpected increase in fuel stockpiles, particularly given the spike in travel demand over the Memorial Day holiday this past weekend. Oil prices dropped earlier in the day as a result of poor Chinese economic data. Chinese industries struggled to draw in demand from outside the country, while domestic consumption remained sluggish, causing exports to decline quicker than anticipated in May and imports to decline as well, albeit more slowly. Oil Market According to information released on Wednesday, refineries’ increasing inventory levels caused crude oil imports into China, the world‘s largest oil consumer, to reach their third-highest monthly level ever in May. In addition, the Dollar declined as the likelihood of a Fed rate hike next week decreased, helping to boost prices. The price of oil decreases for customers using other currencies, increasing demand. - US petrol and distillate stockpiles rise, raising concerns about consumption amid travel demand.
- Chinese economic data causes oil prices to drop.
- OECD predicts moderate global economic growth, 2.7% expansion, down from the March prediction.
As the full consequences of higher interest rates are realized, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development predicted that global economic growth will only pick up moderately over the coming year. The organization forecasted the world economy will expand 2.7% this year in its most recent report, down from its March prediction of 2.6%. In comparison to US West Texas Intermediate crude futures, which were up 79 cents, or 1.1%, to $72.53 a barrel, Brent crude futures closed up 66 cents, or 0.9%, at $76.95 per barrel, according to data from Reuters. 2023.06.08 10:55 EasternAd7104 Recommendations on a beater car
I live in Vancouver for a year now and I am contemplating about buying a used beater car.
I stand 6 ft. and have a budget of 6k CAD. I really don't mind about the year model of the car that I'm gonna buy but I am winding it down to either a Honda Civic, a Toyota Corolla or a Ford Escape.
The reason for Honda and Toyota sedans is because of its well-known reliability especially since I own a Toyota back in my home country. For Ford Escape, that's because it's within the price range of the two in the used market.
To be honest, I'm leaning towards getting a Ford Escape but I am not so sure about the parts reliability of a Ford here in Canada. Unlike for Honda and Toyota that I trust the reliability.
I just wanted to get ideas here.

2023.06.08 10:48 Confident-Cupcake164 Are there libertarians/ancap that focus on meritocracy/proper incentive instead of individual freedom?
A bit like Adam Smith himself. Adam smith doesn't oppose taxation. He believes that taxation must be proportional to benefit. Those who benefit from tax pay for it. A sample would be the maintenance fee we pay on apartment buildings if we live in an apartment. We all benefit roughly equally from the management maintaining elevators, etc.
So we pay roughly equally proportional to the size of our apartments. It's tricky to ask every single apartment owner how much they are willing to pay. So part of the apartment contract is if you own or rent apartment you pay maintenance fee.
Here, the issue isn't so much of consent. We don't pursue that every apartment owners have to have a choice. The issue is practicality. Consent is generated implicitly by signing contract before you own apartment on that building.
People cannot say they own apartment on that building and disagree on paying maintenance fee. Their recourse if they really don't like paying maintenance fee is to simply don't live or buy that apartment.
For example, I like free market because it gives proper incentives to be productive.
Should employer be able to discriminate employee? I say yes. Why? Because employer has proper incentive to run his business well. Those woke activists do not. Also because I know capitalists do not usually discriminate.
Usually there's stupid law requiring employer to pay women maternity leaves, for example, and obviously a rational employer will hire women but prevented by anti discrimination laws.
My opinion about private cities are similar. To me it doesn't matter that private cities have governments. Private cities have proper incentive to treat tax payer nicely like businesses treating their customers well.
Insisting that every individuals in a private city to be free from tax, for example, may or may not be practical. Sometimes it's simpler that one private city have universal police protection, and another have each citizen pay for private police protection. Here, individuals' consent is either implicit or explicit on him living in that city.
In, normal democracy, politicians have huge incentive to give welfare because most people are financially irresponsible and politicians need votes. So useless people are favored over productive people.
If governments provide values for taxpayers and have huge incentive to do so, then it's a step toward the right direction.
Most ancap think private cities are legitimate though.
https://www.reddit.com/Anarcho_Capitalism/comments/140gfr2/can_private_cities_be_at_least_an_improvement/ https://www.reddit.com/Anarcho_Capitalism/comments/13wm3dv/can_we_have_private_cities_in_ancap_societies/ A sample of private cities I like is Prospera with
https://prospera.hn/business/ 5% income tax.
However, from consent angle, the benefit isn't very clear. Some people would argue that if living in a city and not leaving means consenting, then what's the difference between private cities and normal democratic cities, for example.
However, from incentive angle, private cities clearly outshine normal democratic cities. Private cities with clear owners that is run for profit will not, for example, have cradle to grave welfare recipients voting for commies. The owners have incentive to do most tasks like building roads effectively and not to tax too high, and to lower crimes to attract good tax payers.
Democratic cities do not have such incentive. Their rulers' incentive is to win election and given that the poor and ugly outnumber the the rich and pretty, democratic countries have rules that greatly discriminate against wealthy people and prettier women, for example.

2023.06.08 10:11 McLovin6543 Best time to visit Peru, Bolivia & Peru
Hi there! I'm planning my trip to South America from September to November so I would have roughly one month for each country. At first my idea was to travel from South to North so I could slowly get used to higher altitudes. But now I'm considering weather also and it looks like it would be better to travel from North to South.
I want to spend my travels mostly in the nature, hiking, maybe cycling... But I'm interested in local culture also, so I want to explore towns, museums, sights...
I'm not used to hike in high altitudes so that's why I'm worrying about this. But earlier this year I visited Mexico City and for the first time did some hikes over 4500m and I didn't have any issues. But it was only one or two hikes.
Another aspect is the weather. From what I checked it looks to me that there's no so big difference in Peru and Bolivia if I switch direction of traveling. But Chile in November looks to me better than in September.
What's your opinion on this? Which way would you go?

2023.06.08 09:47 A_horse_a_piece77 China Auto Sales Jump 55% Year Over Year As Price Cuts Continue To Move NEV Metal
| Retail sales of passenger vehicles scorched higher in May, with 1.76 million units sold, according to preliminary data from the China Passenger Car Association released this week. The sales figure represents 8% growth from the month prior. As has been the case over the last several years, new energy vehicles continue to grow disproportionately to the rest of the sector, driving sales higher. Last month 557,000 NEVs were sold, growth of 55% year over year and 6% sequentially, according to a Bloomberg wrap up of the data. The sales boost comes as the country slashed prices to move metal throughout the first 5 months of the year. In late May China's auto industry association was urging automakers to "cool" the hype behind price cuts that were sweeping across the country. The price cuts were getting so egregious that the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers went so far as to put out a message on its official WeChat account, stating that "a price war is not a long-term solution". Instead "automakers should work harder on technology and branding," it said at the time. https://preview.redd.it/uuusjf651r4b1.jpg?width=427&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55eefe08e3dc3588eb9e988c967c0bf624d068e8 In May that most major automakers were slashing prices in China. The move is coming after lifting pandemic controls failed to spur significant demand in China, the Wall Street Journal said last month. Ford and GM will be joined by BMW and Volkswagen in offering the discounts and promotions on EVs, the report says. https://www.wsj.com/articles/ford-gm-engage-in-china-price-war-as-car-sales-slump-30266762 At the time, Ford was offering $6,000 off its Mustang Mach-E, putting the standard version of its EV at just $31,000. In April, prior to the discounts, only 84 of the vehicles were sold, compared to 1,500 sales in December. There was some pulling forward of demand due to the phasing out of subsidies heading into the new year, and Ford had also cut prices by about 9% in December. A spokesperson for Ford called it a "stock clearance" at the time. Discounts at Volkswagen ranged from around $2,200 to $7,300 a car. Its electric ID series is seeing price cuts of almost $6,000. The company called the cuts "temporary promotions due to general reluctance among car buyers, the new emissions rule and discounts offered by competitors." 2023.06.08 09:47 A_horse_a_piece77 China Auto Sales Jump 55% Year Over Year As Price Cuts Continue To Move NEV Metal
Instead "automakers should work harder on technology and branding," it said at the time. https://preview.redd.it/8ykt8gg51r4b1.jpg?width=427&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abc2781a9ca5b37bc8753fda68c5f3f14c648131 In May that most major automakers were slashing prices in China. 2023.06.08 09:30 KeeganTroye [Secret] A Complicated Exchange
The Situation In the streets of the Mahama Refugee Camp the over 60,000 refugees live a life devoid of independence– their meals provided by the Rwandan government and UNHCR workers– their homes temporary structures rapidly built to meet increasing demand– in Rwanda nearly half of all refugees are children and while systems are in place to provide an education for many that is an impossibility as they try to scrounge more money to fill in the lack of adequate funding for food as the UNHCR fights for more support and distributes daily allotments in rations to the most in-need.
And where there is need and there is money– then there is corruption, the MIDIMAR officials act under an unspoken policy of don’t look too closely as M23 recruitment sites, unofficially condoned, use this and other refugee camps to bolster the fight in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. With funds provided by Rwanda siphoned through refugee assistance programmes using small business fronts receiving government assistance for the poor and the destitute the M23 provide a method to support their families and to regain their lost power.
For Rwanda’s part the education system in the camps includes deep dives into the history of their new country focusing on the genocide that was so fundamental in the country and those responsible especially the FDLR rebel group and the nations who have assisted and supported them.
But growing their number raises another question, how to equip them without raising Rwandan complicitness and bringing down the international hammer wielded so liberally by the developed world?
A Plan
A large cache of older weapons, primarily small arms and ammunition will be left within a border military installation at Kinogo along the North-West border with the Congo and within striking distance of M23.
Problematic RDF soldiers will be identified and assigned to guard duty on the 16th of June– when the M23 will be given the instruction on when to attack. A majority of the base will be engaging in nearby training routines leaving a skeleton crew behind allowing the M23 to secure the provisions with minimal fighting, but there will be some casualties.
An arrested Hutu supporter will former ties to FDLR will have been convinced to make the claim to be a member of the rebel group captured during the raid– in return for soft treatment and various perks, this will tie the attack and the deaths therein to FDLR forces following which the government will accuse the recent escalations of behavior by the DRC in the Kivu region for reenergizing the FDLR leading to interior strikes into Rwanda and the persecution of unprotected minorities across the border.
‘Evidence’ will be found linking Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza leader of the unofficial opposition party the the DALFA-Umurinzi with local Hutu extremists tied to FDLR activity– she and a handful of supporters will be arrested as violent terrorists and face the court systems.
Result
On June 16th a rebel group attacked the Kinogo Border Post in Rwanda killing five RDF soldiers and obtaining a large surplus of small arms and ammunition. The RDF managed to capture one of the rebels claiming to be a member of the FDLR a Rwandan rebel group operating out of the DRC looking to restore Hutu Supremacy after escaping the country following the Rwandan genocide.
Rwanda strongly condemns the actions of these rebels for violating their safety and security but admits that the problem is not purely the work of their neighbors and turns inward investigating links between the FDLR and prominent opposition leader Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza who had formerly been arrested in Rwanda for genocide denial and inciting violence and was serving her 15 year sentence outside of the prison after the first 8 years were spent mostly in solitary confinement.
Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza and a handful of other members of her party have been arrested with the government announcing financial links between her and the FDLR.
Furthermore President Kagame calls for the people of Rwanda to stand firm against this aggression, promising that they will increase the militarization of the border to protect against coming attacks and that he intends to support those across the border who are facing the violence of the FDLR and those who support it such at the Congo’s ruling party.
Rwanda will do the following
- Rwanda will continue to grow her forces along the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo recalling the majority of its peacekeeping forces in Africa primarily to staff the North Kivu border but also along the southern border with the Congo. Increasing the border presence to roughly 15,000 troops.
- Rwanda will begin using the RZipper drone delivery system to provide aid through food and medical supplies directly into the Congo along the contested Kivu region.
- Rwanda will appeal to her allies in Beijing as current equipment standards for the RDF are below an international standard at the scale of potential operations. The primary goal will be obtaining more modern small arms and ammunition.

2023.06.08 09:19 ObservationalWizard Are the current electricity costs seen as very high?
I moved a couple of years from Belgium, where we used both gas and electricity. For an average one family house, we used about 2500 KwH per year and 900 m3 of gas, which costed roughly 120 euro per month (period 2012-2019). This was almost the exact average of a 4 person household.
Fast forward, I live in a villa in Sweden and we use around 10.000 KwH per year. We currently have a 3 year electricity contract (this is normal in other countries, a variable rate basically means you have no control over your finances and this gives you financial stress), and including the grid provider, our average monthly cost in 2022 was 1.400 sek, meaning it's even cheaper than in Belgium pre-price-crisis. We also have a spa and swimming pool we heat quite a lot and we expected the prices to increase much and much more. Therefore I am a bit confused why a lot of people are complaining about the current electricity rates, since it is still well below the European average. Especially taking the financial support from the government into account, our monthly costs were a bit above 1.200 SEK per month.
Of course I looked into the historical electricity rate, but I am just curious if the current situation (or at least the last months) is seen as very high. Curious to see your answers, especially from people who are from other countries and are already used to this price level.
